As a young entrepreneur, Bruce D. Datcher dedicated his career to providing services to underrepresented citizens throughout the North Central Texas area. On April 22, 2001, Bruce D. Datcher was called by God to preach the Gospel.
On July 13, 2003, he answered the call to serve as Interim Pastor of the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. One year later, on July 11, 2004, Reverend Datcher was installed as the new Pastor of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church.
During his early years as Pastor, Reverend Datcher devoted considerable attention to youth outreach, working to broaden the horizons of young people throughout the Stop Six community. He developed programs that provided mentorship and college assistance to students with financial needs. In 2006, Pastor Datcher was honored by the IMA of Dallas as the recipient of the Young Preacher of the Year Award.
After much prayer and direction from the Lord, Pastor Datcher led the Ebenezer Church Family in the planning and development of a 15,000-square-foot Community Center designed to address the needs of the underserved community. Today, the Community Center is home to programs for senior citizens that help combat senior isolation. Seniors receive hot meals, participate in social activities, and are educated through health awareness and exercise programs.
Through the efforts of the Community Center, hundreds of children also receive year-round services, including healthy meals, backpacks, school supplies, coats, shoes, and holiday gifts. The Community Center has become an inspiration to the entire City of Fort Worth and a tremendous source of pride and ownership for the residents of Stop Six. It is known as the Brighter Outlook Community Center.
Pastor Bruce D. Datcher was recognized as the inspiration behind the Amon Carter Museum’s new Senior Outreach Program for seniors throughout Tarrant County. Details of the program were published in the July 6, 2012, edition of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He has also been frequently featured in the Fort Worth Business Press for his many efforts throughout the community.
Pastor Datcher holds a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies from Aspen Christian College and a master’s degree from Aspen Theological Seminary. He received an Honorary Doctor of Letter Degree in May 2007 and currently is a candidate for the Doctor of Philosophy in Biblical Preaching at Newburg Theological Seminary.
After serving for nine years as General Secretary of the Texas State Missionary Baptist Convention, Pastor Datcher was elected the ninth President of Texas’ second-oldest convention, the Texas State Missionary Baptist Convention, on October 16, 2013.
On February 1, 2013, Pastor Datcher was recognized as the recipient of the R. E. Price Community Service Award. He serves on the Site-Based Team for the Paul L. Dunbar Young Men Leadership Academy – FWISD; the Mayor’s Faith-Based Cabinet for the City of Fort Worth; and the Faith-Based Cabinet of Congressional District 33.
